Extracurricular activities help individuals explore their capabilities, as well as challenge them to grow. Extracurricular activities offered by I CAN! of Arkansas include dance, art, music, cheerleading clinics, soccer and CrossFit. Families may participate in any or all of the activities offered. These classes conclude with a devotional thought and time of prayer.
In addition to extracurricular activities, I CAN! of Arkansas offers some supporting programs such as Family Fun Night, Faithful Explorers (adults with special needs), and occasional parent retreats.
All activities and programs are offered at no cost to the families.
I CAN! Dance
I CAN! Dance is offered in multiple locations throughout Central Arkansas (North Little Rock, Hot Springs, Conway and the I CAN! Center) and gives these children an opportunity to perform on stage with bright lights and fancy costumes. It also shows the audience that these children CAN dance and have the same interests and dreams as other children.
I CAN! Art
I CAN! Art classes are held at I CAN! Arts & Resource Center and allow children to explore their creativity and encourages self-expression through a variety of art mediums. Participants create art pieces individually and as a group. Some items may be taken home, while other items may be displayed at the center, or during an art show or sale allowing a broader audience to experience their artwork.
I CAN! Music
I CAN! Music classes are held at I CAN! Arts & Resource Center and will introduce participants to the four families of the orchestra, including live demonstrations of instruments from the various families. Participation with rhythm instruments, listening activities, and musical games will also be incorporated to help students enjoy learning new musical skills. Participants in I CAN! Music will have an opportunity to perform in a recital setting.
Family Fun Night
Family Fun Night is just that...FUN! It brings families together across I CAN! of Arkansas programs, including programs at satellite locations, to enjoy a meal and entertainment, games, etc. It allows time for adults and children with special needs to connect resulting in some mentoring moments and relationships. Families can share their challenges and victories, in addition to experiencing much needed stress relief. This program is usually offered monthly.
Faithful Explorers is for adults with special needs, ages 18 and up. This group meets at I CAN! Arts & Resource Center and faithfully explores opportunities for encouragement and support, as well as opportunities to give back to the community. Faithful Explorers' events have provided entertainment, such as Irish dancers and local musicians. A group from The Home Depot volunteered their time to build birdhouses with the adults. Faithful Explorers have participated in give-back opportunities such as landscaping for local nonprofits and food drives.
If you are affiliated with an organization that might be willing to do a demonstration or hands-on project (martial arts, dance, music, crafts, etc.)
If you are affiliated with a group that might benefit from the Faithful Explorers’ desire to give back to the community, please contact I CAN! of Arkansas at ican@icanarkansas.
